Be the best you can be

What does it mean to be the best you can be?

Being the best you can be isn’t being better than everyone else. It’s striving to be the best version of yourself every single day, without comparing yourself to others.

Why is it good to be the best you can be?

It enables you to remain positive, and to always have a goal to aspire to. When being the best you can be, you have the ability to inspire others with your actions. Also, if you know you worked really hard, and tried your best, you won’t look back, thinking “I could have tried that little bit harder.”

How can I be the best I can be?

Live in the moment. Don’t spend your time reminiscing about the past or daydreaming about the future when you could be making a difference right now!

Don’t compare yourself to others. The moment you start doing that, you’ve already destroyed your own self-confidence. And by thinking that they’re better than you, you’ve already started to believe that you’re not good enough, when you are!

Always try your best. Even if you think you won’t be good at something, you’ll never know unless you try. And if you try your best, no one can blame you if you don’t quite make it.

Never give up. If you give up on an opportunity before you’ve even tried it, just because you’re worried you might fail, you’ll never know what you could have achieved. But if you have a go and push through, and if even then you still failed, at least you can still be proud of yourself for not giving up.

Look for the silver lining. Seek enjoyment in what you’re doing! Find the fun in the task at hand! As Mary Poppins says “a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down” – try to make a game out of whatever chore you’re doing, and you’ll find it’s not really a chore at all. And when you do, you’ll start to enjoy it, and then you’ll try harder to do it well.

Learn from your mistakes. When things go wrong, instead of feeling sad, use it as a time for improvement. Learn from your mistakes and any feedback given to you, be it good or bad, so you can do better next time.

Lastly, always remember that if you tried to be the best you can be, it doesn’t matter whether you won or lost, because the greatest reward of all is knowing that you tried, and that you were the best you could be!
